About
When I heard the result of the breast biopsy, Cancer, the world stood still. But the world still
goes on around you. When word got out, a good friend stopped by. Ironically, she must not
have been a good friend as I thought, as she told something I did not know. She had the
diagnosis 16 years ago. She was a survivor with a mastectomy, radiation and chemo as well as
a hormone pill for five years.
I looked at her incredulously. We spent the next two hours talking. She gave me some tips that
helped her. The first of which was journaling. Writing down your thoughts. Second, take
someone with you to listen at each doctor visit. They can be your ears because your head will
be going in all directions. Third, listen and ask questions of your husband or significant other as
they are going through it with you.
I started writing my thoughts and the journey that I was taking. I discovered some of the things
that happened to me were part of the foibles of life. I also discovered that many women have
reached out to me and have told me their stories. Women—Survivors—are heroes and most
forthcoming to help share their experiences and most of all, be there for the neophytes.
Tit Talk is that journal, sharing my story and stories of some of the women who have reached
out to me - developed for that woman and that man who makes 5% of the population that has
breast cancer, to experience this woman’s journey.
XOXO,
Barbara
